Bechtel Corporation is the largest engineering, procurement, construction, and project management company in the United States.

Bechtel has built hundreds of colossal projects worldwide, including the Hoover Dam and Yucca Mountain Nuclear Waste Facility. With tens of thousands of workers building complex facilities, safety is critical and productivity is essential to meet deadlines.

Objectives

With thousands of workers, productivity is dependent on the efficiency of each crew. To manage these complex logistics, Bechtel turned to EX Squared for digital innovation that would meet these goals. The following objectives were then identified:

  • Improve project productivity using digital solutions.
  • Eliminate unnecessary paperwork and tedious tasks.
  • Provide a solution to free up supervisors, giving them more “eyes on crew.”

Solutions

EX Squared observed foremen in the field and quickly recognized how much unnecessary time was spent on paperwork rather than solving problems. EX Squared solved this by understanding the core needs and creating a digital solution that streamlined the entire process. Designed proprietary, innovative digital worker safety solutions. Digitized the paper process for vastly improved efficiencies. Applied design thinking to create and deliver an iOS solution that streamlined interaction between foremen and their crews.

Results

Deployment was a success. Bechtel realized significant financial benefits from a drastic decrease in safety incidents as well as an increase in efficiencies by moving to a digital process.

With over 50 projects completed to date, EX Squared custom solutions have been deployed in countries worldwide. Successful use by thousands of employees improved worker safety and productivity while providing an outstanding return on investment.
